Training

Hallsville Primary is a highly successful two-form entry school rated ‘Outstanding’ by OfSTED. Our environment is one of support and respect for all. Through an enriching and balanced curriculum our children make outstanding progress and achieve outstanding grades at the end of the Key Stage 2 assessments.

At Hallsville, PE and sport is a key feature of the school children. All children have fitness breaks during lessons throughout the course of the day – a regular part of their day which contributes to their academic success. At lunchtime the playground is vibrant hub of activity with all children engaging in a variety of sports. As a consequence the behaviour of children at lunchtime is exemplar: children take responsibility for equipment, supervising and supporting each other as they play- leadership is at every level!

Within our curriculum for English, we use the Talk for Writing strategies developed by Pie Corbett; we successfully use RWInc to support reading.

Philosophy for Children (P4C) is also an established part of the curriculum which develops deep and profound thinking in all subject areas but especially P.H.S.E and R.E.

Talk for Writing Training Days

Open Mornings
Our open mornings offer an insight into the Talk for Writing process and are aimed at leaders, however, all teachers are welcome. Delegates will gain an understanding of the three i’s – innovation, imitation and independent application. They will also:

  • See the Talk for Writing programme in action.
  • Talk to teachers and children.
  • Hear from Talk for Writing leaders on how to lead the programme effectively in school.
  • Look at books/curriculum maps.

The Three I’s
Our three-day course is designed to give leaders/teachers a deeper insight into the three main stages of Talk for Writing. Delegates will see each stage in action and be supported in planning ideas with a unit of work for their year group.

Independent Writing in KS2
This course will look at using quality literature as a model for children’s writing. It will explore shared writing and delegates will be able to see this in action across KS2.
