Music

Ukulele in Year 5

All children learn to play the Ukulele in year 5, developing their musical understanding, covering different musical styles such as the Blues, and learning to read Tablature notation alongside traditional stave notation.

Violins in Year 4

All children at Hallsville continue their musical learning through playing the violin in Year 4.  We also run beginner violin classes for new starters to develop their playing further, and advanced violin classes for children to prepare for ABRSM exams in the summer.

Recorder Playing

In Year 2 all children learn music through recorder playing. Children learn pitch and rhythm, reading by score, and the technical skills to perform on the recorder.

St Georges Church Concert

We perform regularly at different venues throughout the year. Here, our violinists are performing at St Georges Church, Southwark, in a concert with violinist Michael Bochmann.

Creating Music

One of the topics covered in Year 6 is creating electronic music using the ‘Soundtrap’ music program.  Children compose their own music, exploring structure and compositional.

Flute & Clarinet Lessons

We offer a number of spaces for free clarinet and flute lessons.  These lessons are delivered by the Newham Academy of Music.
